Well, the title says it all...
I've read about 40 posts today about iwl4965, but none does this.
I've managed to connect once after i reboot, managed to download about 300kb of a file.
i keep wpa_gui open and it still says im connected, but im unable to ping even the router.
if i restart net.wlan0, it gets worse. then wpa_gui keeps saying it gets disconnected about every two seconds. it doesn't even get an ip from dhcp.
i'm using kernel 2.6.26-r4, and its an iwl4965 with the supposed stable ucode.
i did manage to connect for a while using wireless extensions and wep. (and a router reconfiguration, of course) _________________ pc-rhiakath ~ $ emerge -s happiness

Hi, maybe you should try the kernel 2.6.27 and the ~arch for iwl4965-ucode.
Also, when this happens, can you post this :
Code: |
# wpa_cli status
# dmesg | tail
|
|

Thank God you-re around (I noticed you seem to answer most of these questions)
Well, i already have the masked version of the ucode and the kernel. It does connect. once, and for about one minute. If i restart net.wlan0, it just keeps dropping even before dhcp.
Here's my info
my wpa_supplicant.conf
Code: |
ctrl_interface=/var/run/wpa_supplicant
ctrl_interface_group=wheel
ap_scan=1
network={
ssid="RFWireless"
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
psk="my-key-here"
priority=1
}
# This is a network block that connects to any unsecured access point.
# We give it a low priority so any defined blocks are preferred.
network={
key_mgmt=NONE
priority=-9999999
}
|
my /etc/conf.d/net
Code: |
modules=("wpa_supplicant")
wpa_supplicant_wlan0="-Dwext"
config_eth0=("192.168.1.12 netmask 255.255.255.0 broadcast 192.168.1.255")
routes_eth0=("default via 192.168.1.1")
dns_servers_eth0=("192.168.1.1")

So far (just to annoy me) it's working. I'm currently typing this from the laptop. I'll try and reinitialize the connection now.
EDIT1:
Ok, reinitializing the connection did it. It just doesn-t connect anymore. (sorry for the typos, can't get used to US keyboard)
if i perform an /etc/init.d/net.wlan0 restart, it says in the middle SIOCSIWAUTH> Operation not supported.
Dunno if that matters. gonna try to connect again on the laptop and copy the message. same for dmesg
EDIT2:
Now from my laptop again. I managed to re-connect after rmmod'ing iwlcore rfkill iwlagn and mac80211 and modprobing them again for about 5 times. After each of those times, i'd try to restart net.wlan0, and this time, it did...
this is what happens every time i restart wlan0
Code: |
Aiur rhiakath # /etc/init.d/net.wlan0 start
* Starting wlan0
* Starting wpa_supplicant on wlan0 ...
ioctl[SIOCSIWAUTH]: Operation not supported
[ ok ]th param 4 value 0x0 -
* Starting wpa_cli on wlan0 ...
[ ok ]
* Backgrounding ...
|
as for dmesg, now it appears normal, as supposed...
dmesg | grep wl

Somewhere along these lines are my attempts at restarting the NIC.
any ideas?

and this is what wap_cli said.
Code: |

wpa_state=DISCONNECTED |
and Code: |
Selected interface 'wlan0'
bssid=00:1a:70:9a:39:fc
ssid=RFWireless
id=0
pairwise_cipher=TKIP
group_cipher=TKIP
key_mgmt=WPA-PSK
wpa_state=ASSOCIATED |
it switched around these two about every second. after removing all the modules, waiting a bit, and loading them again, (a few times), i managed to connect again.

Hi, I had this problem once. When my Wifi connection drops, I need to kill actually wpa_supplicant and remove iwl3945 for my concern.
Also, my main problem was my router WRT54G, I need to remove the power off and powert on and after that I'm good for 3 to6 months.
If you want to test that, when the connexion drops, just leave it that way and run this :
You will see that your Wifi card is still working but maybe your router will have a signal below 50%.
I had this last year. |

I had been checking about the signal. I can still see the wireless network, indeed. The question is, it should not be the router. I have a linksys too, but mine is about 30 cm from the laptop, and my gf's laptop with the unspeakable (vista) remains with the same signal strength. besides, this router is three months old. And every time i reinstall gentoo, it's the same thing over and over again with wireless...

Dunno why, now it just works. Maybe it has something to do with the new kernel. I've synced, and it upgraded my kernel to 2.6.27-r7. it works ever since, but only if i don't disconnect. then, it will never connect again. _________________ pc-rhiakath ~ $ emerge -s happiness

When it happends, do you kill the wpa_supplicant deamon ?
I had this problem too, and the problem is not the Intel driver, but it's wpa_supplicant that hang the driver. |

hmm...
knowing i restart net.wlan0, i suppose it kills wpa.... Not sure, though.
i stop net.wlan0, rmmod all the drivers, modprob'em again, and restart net.wlan0. this (kinda) works (sometimes).
Gonna try killing wpa manually, although it does say in the net script that its killing wpa. _________________ pc-rhiakath ~ $ emerge -s happiness
