postfix/dovecot with smtp authen? [solved]

has anyone gotten smtp authen of remote imap clients to work so they can relay mail?
Ive got everything working on my new sevrer but allowing it to relay email for remote imap clients.. I cant find any decent docs..
from what Ive read, I cannot use the dovecot-sasl for this?
anyway, can someone point me to a config-guide/howto that works for this on a system with
postfix-2.5.5 and dovecot-1.1.7-r1
