I get a kernel panic with zen-sources-2.6.28-r10 , the same occured with -r9. I get a kernel panic with a lot of messages like "cc cc cc cc cc cc cc cc cc cc cc cc cc..."

My config file is in:
http://gentoo.pastebin.ca/1337016

It only adds reiser4 support over my working gentoo tuxonice kernel

Thanks a lot :-)

nice ! :)

I meanwhile corrected the howto at the beginning of this thread

so you're not hosting zenmm anymore but mmotm - sweet :P

I'll fix this section / howto on the zen-sources.org site later

So you are using reiser4 on / then? (there were some r4 updates that could have potentially broke it)
If so, please try the latest master-2.6.28 (new r4 updates and 2.6.28.6)

If not, then let me know if vanilla 2.6.28.6 is working?

no no no no... idk where all this confusion comes from, -zemm is out -mm based kernel with all the normal zen goodies, mmotm is andrew mortons daily pre release of the next -mm kernel, since mm does not use git, we push his mm snapshots to a git repo for our own purposes and for other kernel devs to use if they want... we will still be releasing -zenmm kernels, we just have been too busy with other school shit and other projects to make a new -zenmm release... I do not recomment running -mmotm, they are more unstable than -mm kernels ;) we have nothing to do with mmotm really

i think those pulling-snapshots-into-git-tree scripts are very cool: if I have understood how they work, with those you can easily "gittify" everything :)

No, I am using reiserfs in /

It works fine with latest gentoo-sources and tuxonice-sources, should I try also with vanilla?

You have to try zen 2.6.28.6 and vanilla 2.6.28.6, gentoo or tuxonice aren't necessarily updated.

After merging vanilla-sources-2.6.28.6 and re-emerging zen-sources-2.6.28-zen10, the problem seems resolved :-O

Thanks a lot!

you should be able to reset your password if you edit your profile, the website does not send out new e-mails

https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=207697

The rt2x00 driver package has been removed in favour of the in-kernel driver. However I can't find the option to activate this and grepping .config does not show anything I would associate with this.

Does anyone here know what it is called, CONFIG_..... ?

TIA 8)

OK, found it, my bad.

Now since syncing layman and installing this kernel I get a complaint from portage on every invocation of emerge:
Code:

bash-3.2#emp -uD system

These are the packages that would be merged, in order:

Calculating dependencies -/usr/portage/local/layman/zen-overlay/eclass/e2fsprogs-git.eclass: line 16: syntax error near unexpected token `<<<'
/usr/portage/local/layman/zen-overlay/eclass/e2fsprogs-git.eclass: line 16: `<<<<<<< HEAD:eclass/e2fsprogs-git.eclass'

 *               ebuild.sh, line 1238:  Called die

 *  The die message:

 *
 * If you need support, post the topmost build error, and the call stack if relevant.
 * This ebuild is from an overlay: '/usr/portage/local/layman/zen-overlay/'
 *
... done!

What's that about and how do I clean it up?

TIA.

BTW the kernel was a dream to install and looks good. Too early to make a definitive report but seems perfectly stable here. Nice work. 8)

i think that ebuild is left over from when ext4 just came out, its not needed any more, i will remove it

This ebuild has been gooooooooooone forever, so your overlay is wayyyyyyyyyyyyy outdated

Thanks Cheater,

I just tried to sync again and remembered it had failed last time just before I built the kernel so there could be some cruft.

Code:
* Running command "cd "/usr/portage/local/layman/lxde" && /usr/bin/hg pull -u "http://bitbucket.org/yngwin/lxde-overlay/""...
pulling from http://bitbucket.org/yngwin/lxde-overlay/
searching for changes
no changes found
* Running command "cd "/usr/portage/local/layman/zen-overlay" && /usr/bin/git pull"...
You are in the middle of a conflicted merge.
*
* Success:
* ------
*
* Successfully synchronized overlay "lxde".
*
* Errors:
* ------
*
* Failed to sync overlay "zen-overlay".
* Error was: Syncing overlay "zen-overlay" returned status 256!

where is it getting this conflicted merge idea from?

OK , I just removed and readded zen-overlay and all seems clean.

Sorry to bother. :wink:

TIA.

ERROR: "is_io_mapping_possible" [drivers/gpu/drm/i915/i915.ko] undefined!

looks like a known bug, there is already a pach on google, please fix it!

I think it has to be fixed upstream first... :)
if it has, next merge will be ok :D

yes, but I think it doesn't make much sense fixing a thing that will be merged with pulls from linus' tree :wink:

I haven't kept track of all those changes but I suppose

2.6.28-zen12 and 2.6.29-rc7-zen1 contain the latest reiser4 with fixes ?

thanks for your continued work on this kernel(patchset) :D

.config would be beneficial, i can't answer bug reports when people don't give me any other information besides what the problem is.

I haven't kept track of all those changes but I suppose

2.6.28-zen12 and 2.6.29-rc7-zen1 contain the latest reiser4 with fixes ?

thanks for your continued work on this kernel(patchset) :D

huh? what fixes? I just started using 2.6.28-zen10 recently and had 70% of my R4 portage partition disappear on me after a power out. :x Was the R4 patch in this release unstable?

I have been using 2.6.20-nicus for nearly 2 years and have most of my system on R4 since R4 was in beta. This is the first time I have lost ANYTHING on an R4 partition despite frequent browns on power glitches. Very disappointing.

Can this still be regarded as reliable? Whatever happened to atomic writes? Atomic as in nuked partition?

I've seen some murmurings about kernel ppl hacking about in R4 and making a mess of it.
:?
