Hi,
I have an ASUS P4C800 mainboard with an onboard LAN controller.
This LAN controller is identified by the command # lspci
as: 3ComCorporation 3c940 10/100/1000Base-T [Marvell] (rev 12)
Now, I want to use this LAN controller with kernel-2.6.26 (gentoo-sources)
In this kernel version, I found 2 possibilities for support -> SKGE and SKY2
But none of this options works. Neither as modules nor as fixed kernel options.
# ifconfig never shows me eth0
Please help.
regards, oliver |

Try tg3. I see a reference to it there....
Code: |
./tg3.c: { PCI_VENDOR_ID_3COM, 0x1008, PHY_ID_BCM5701 }, /* 3C940BR01 */

Thank you for the answer.
but tg3.ko doesn't work either.
Better I buy a cheap 100Mbit card wich is linux compatible.

One of my machines has an ASUS A7V600 motherboard with the same onboard ethernet controller.
I am using the skge driver compiled as a module, and it has worked fine for all the recent kernel versions that I have tried (currently vanilla-2.6.28 ). |

What does "ifconfig -a" show you ?
Does dmesg show any error/status messages after the skge module is loaded ? |

the command "ifconfig -a" was very usefull, my controller was found as eth1.
Maybe that's because I took off my old LAN-interfacecard from the mainboard
and switched to the Onboard LAN.
Now, after some scriptfile modifications the skge driver works fine.
Thank you very much,
