Right click to bring up the fluxbox menu. In the Configuration sub-menu, there should be a Menu Alpha option at the bottom. Move the pointer over that, then use the wheel on your mouse (you've got one right?) to change the value. 255 is completely opaque. 0 is completely transparent.

BTW, the latest fluxbox is 0.9.4.

Is your background set with Esetroot? And not xv? Transparency only works if you use a method to set the root window background that Fluxbox can understand. After all, it's not real transparency but "fake".

so do i need to set the bg using fbsetbd or another util fluxbox can use ro should the default background from one of the styles be fine....

btw im using kde ATM and the xrender blend for menu transparency is working fine...

for setting your background to work in fluxbox with transparency you need Esetroot. it comes with Eterm.
Code:
emerge eterm

that will give you the program to do it. the way i used to set my bg was to make this entry to my .xinitrc file
Code:
Esetroot -scale /home/mbeef/images/imagewhatever.png

just make sure thats before exec fluxbox and it will come up at startup.

optionally you could add it into your .fluxbox/init file or (as i do now) use bbrb
Code:
emerge bbrb

bbrb is a nice gtk+ util that lets you set your bg easily with xv or Esetroot.

Ok, Fluxbox is starting to get me mad...
I have Fluxbox, as well as a whole host of other things that really ought to get transparent menus happening... but nothing is getting it working!!!
For example, that alpha slider you mention in the settings submenu? Not even there!
Can someone please help me? :(

What version did you install? If you just did emerge fluxbox then you'll have the stable 0.1.14 version which doesn't support transparent menus.

If this is the case and you want to install the dev version (0.94) then read here on how to do it!
