i'm new to gentoo and have a pci wireless card in my desktop, link to the actual product is below

Subsystem: RaLink Device 2860
Flags: bus master, slow devsel, latency 64, IRQ 10

Capabilities: [40] Power Management version 3

i didnt see my chipset in make menuconfig so i didnt know what my best option would be?

There seems to be some rudimentary support in the kernel for it:

But I can't help you with the implementation :-/

Otherwise you could try to modify the rt2870usb ebuild which is available here:

https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=228553

and see how far you come ...

Finally there is of course the source code on

http://www.ralinktech.com/ralink/Home/Support/Linux.html

which you can try to compile manually even though you're leaving the path of
truth then ;-)
