I have been using 64-bit Gentoo for some time now, but have decided to switch to 32-bit because I cannot get flash to work.
I downloaded both the live cd and the minimal install images. X on the liveCD does not start because it does not like xorg.conf, so I booted the minimal image and typed 'install'.
All appeared to go well during the install. Due to time constraints I had to chroot into the new system twice. I was able to emerge several packages.
However, when I booted into the new system, no network. I had emerged dhcpcd but not dhcp. Is it needed separately? The boot listing that scrolls by indicates dhcp tries to get an address, but times out. The really odd thing is that now I get the same result with both CD images as well. The hardware is good since it works with the 64-bit version I'm currently using.
lspci indicates eth0 is
00:09.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL-8139/8139C/8139C+ (rev 10)
32-bit /var/log/dmesg indicates 8139cd loads but 8139too fails -already loaded (???)
lsmod for minimal CD shows both 8139cd and 8139too loaded.
I can understand that the new system can have problems because I did not configure the kernel properly, but the CD images too?
Can anyone shed some light, either on getting 64-bit flash to work with Firefox 3 or the network problem?
TIA

Flash is working with 64bit firefox in the latest version available in portage (net-www/netscape-flash-10.0.21.1_alpha), you may have to "keyword" it.
Code: | # echo "=net-www/netscape-flash-10.0.21.1_alpha ~amd64" >> /etc/portage/package.keywords
# emerge netscape-flash |

Thanks, but there must be something else involved. Perhaps a registry of some sort that says a particular plugin is installed that the emerge does not handle.
The emerge gave me /opt/netscape/plugins/libflashplayer.so, and I put a link to it in the firefox plugins directory.
I'm still getting a "Missing plugin" message at http://www.catchoftheday.com.au/.
When I click to get missing plugins, I'm told Adobe Flash Player is needed. |
