|
|
I was compiling a kernel for a new install today (gentoo-sources 2.6.27-r7) and came across this message:
Code: |
WARNING: modpost: Found 4 section mismatch(es).
To see full details build your kernel with:
'make CONFIG_DEBUG_SECTION_MISMATCH=y'
|
Usually this is caused by using `make oldconfig` a few too many times. I tried running `make defconfig` and reconfiguring, only to get the same results.
The question now is, should this be reported as a bug? |

Yes, it's definitely a bug.
I've found this to happen with pretty much everything after .25. My fresh seeds, which are built upon make defconfig and only worked using make xconfig come up with 1 mismatch every time. It doesn't seem to hurt anything, but it doesn't reflect well on kernel.org, IMHO. I haven't reported it because it's more of an annoyance to me than anything else. It doesn't seem to affect system operation.
Report it and see what happens. It would be cool to not see mismatch errors.
Blessed be!

it is not a 'bug' - you can ignore it. _________________ Study finds stunning lack of racial, gender, and economic diversity among middle-class white males
