|
|
Hi all,
was wanting to watch "Old Boy", a korean movie with english subs. Tried VLC first and loading the subs manually, but Code: | VLC can't recognize the input's format:
The format of '/home/gr0x0rd/files/gr0x-0/movies/Old Boy.sub' cannot be detected. Have a look the log for details. | I didn't find any log in my .vlc folder, so I thought I'd move on to mplayer. Code: | mplayer "files/gr0x-0/movies/Old Boy.avi" -sub "files/gr0x-0/movies/Old Boy.sub" | and the survey says... Code: | Clip info:
Software: VirtualDubMod 1.5.4.1 (build 2178/release)
SUB: Could not determine file format
Cannot load subtitles: files/gr0x-0/movies/Old Boy.sub
SUB: Could not determine file format
Cannot load subtitles: files/gr0x-0/movies/Old Boy.sub | ok... maybe a corrupt subtitle file. so, found a torrent, downloaded a different .sub file to give that a try... Code: | mplayer "files/gr0x-0/movies/Old Boy.avi" -sub "files/gr0x-0/movies/Old Boy.sub"
...
SUB: Could not determine file format
Cannot load subtitles: files/gr0x-0/movies/Old Boy (Korean + Eng Subs)(2003).sub
SUB: Could not determine file format
Cannot load subtitles: files/gr0x-0/movies/Old Boy.sub |
The only things I've been able to find on google or the forums is that subs may need rar >2.99 (3.8.0 installed) or have problems with fonts (truetype USE flag is in my make.conf). But the fact that neither player can recognize a .sub file tells me I am missing something... perhaps a missing a package or USE flag? What do I need to be able to load .sub files?
Thanks for reading, _________________ ~g

I downloaded the subtitle from here:
http://subtitles.images.o2.cz/d/181586/Old+Boy.html
(.srt file) and it is working fine with mplayer. still not sure why I can't open .sub files, but if finding an .srt such as this is just as good...
