I am trying to move my network configurations to NetworkManager. Have emerged version 0.7 along with nm-applet. Almost all configurations I have — wired dhcp, wireless WPA, wireless+VPN — work fine.
But sometimes I need to setup wired configuration with manual IP configuration. And I have following issue with that config: I don't get default gateway and need to do route add default gw xxx.xxx.xxx.xxx every time I try to connect using these settings.
As quick googling and searching on this forum have brought no immediate results I seek your wisdom in helping me solve this problem.

Hmmm.... I just tried a static config through NM-0.7 to flash my router and it worked fine...
I have it emerged with just "doc gnutls" flags. |

That's weird... If I connect to a router (I usually use with dhcp) using a static config — default gw is updated fine. Changed settings in this connection to my static ip config — it now updates fine too. Can't tell a difference between the old and the new...
So basically the solution was to create another static network config...
Marking this as solved although I don't really get what was the problem and how did I solved it
Anyway it works now, thanks for the help! |

huh, I agree, that's weird. My situations... After trying to get my auto connection using dhcp switched over to static, without success, I remember adding a route. This route was not the correct default route, but rather a local route. Realizing my mistake I tried to change it to 0.0.0.0 0.0.0.0 192.168.2.1, but it would not hold. I would click ok and apply, but it remained with the local route. So, I deleted it. Still no success. That is when I saw your post, created a new one without adding a route, and today I did not have to add the default route manually. I'm using nm-applet-0.7.2. |

One should also check the "route" option in ip4-config screen, make sure none of the options there is marked. |
