what exactly are the difference between
r--
r-x
--x
second one it's pretty clear, but first and third one confuses me ![Confused :?](images/smiles/icon_confused.gif) _________________ I do what I want, and that's what I do.

The chmod manpage is a good place for an explanation of this stuff. Just type "man chmod" at your local friendly bash prompt.
r-- == read-only
r-x == read and execute permissions (if it's a directory, x grants the ability to change to that directory)
--x == execute only, like I can change to a directory but not list it's contents, or execute a shell script but not cat it. |
