I've been trying to get this wireless USB adapter to work...its an rt73...I enabled the r73usb as a module in the kernel config. I can succesfully modprobe rt73usb, but when I do a 'ifconfig wlan0 up', I get a
wlan0: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device

I've tried other names, ra0, wlan1, etc...nothing.
ifconfig and iwconfig show no wireless extensions.

I've searched the forum for help, people suggested enabling the rt2500 pci module in the kernel, did that, modprobed it, same results.
People also suggested copying the firmware to /lib/firmware, tried that too.

The output of dmesg doesn't look suspicious.....

Any ideas?

Thanks

-Tony

I had linksys wusb54g v4 (or smth like that) and it worked with rt2500usb, no firmware needed. anyway, if iwconfig doesn't show any interfaces then you either don't have wireless extensions in kernel or you're using wrong driver (more likely)

Ok I can't paste the output of dmesg directly since that computer isnt connected to the internet, but I'll try to copy it manual here:

Code:

usb 1-1.1: skipped 1 descriptor after interface
usb 1-1.1: event
usb 1-1.1: usb_probe_device
usb 1-1.1: configuration #1 chosen from 1 choice
usb 1-1.1: adding 1-1.1:1.0 (config #1, interface 0)
usb 1-1.1: uevent
drivers/usb/core/inode.c: creating file '006'
usb 1-1.1: New USB device found, idVendor=1915, idProduct=2233
usb 1-1.1: New USB device strings: Mfr=0, Product=0, SerialNumber=0
hub 1-1.1:1.0: state 7 ports 4 chg 0000 evt 0002

Yeah, so I guess I'll try just the rt2500usb driver instead...
