Just wanted to pass my congratulations to all the developers for all their hard work on gentoo 1.4 it is a *great* release. Take a break, drink some beers, and sit back and watch the servers get overloaded.

Yes, thank you thank you!

I'm re-installing with 1.4 final right now... partially for fun, and partially to move to a new hard drive

I wholeheartedly second the congratulations!!! Great job avenj on getting things moving on this release and getting it out the door!! You guys have really done some impressive things and I've been amazed at how much the Gentoo project has grown since 1.2 came out.

I think this release will really open a lot more doors for Gentoo. As an example, I think we're going to be using Gentoo 1.4 for the networking lab at my university now that it'll be so fast and easy to get machines up and running. The big problem before that was the compilation time required for X. Now with the GRP CDs and distcc, that shouldn't be a problem at all anymore.

I'll drink a beer in celebration tonight :) I'm sure all of the developers will be glad to hear the end of the whining from all us users about this release...at least until we hear what's planned for 1.5+.... ;)

I'm eagerly looking forward to hearing what new features are planned in Portage, etc now that 1.4 is out the door.

Anyway - good job to everyone. I've been a Gentoo user since 1.0rc6 and this looks like the best release yet. I think the future holds great things for Gentoo and I hope to be a part of it all :)

To all the developers out there: Congrats! To somehow pay back the debt I have due to your great efforts, you all have a place to stay whenever you're in Holland. How do you like your breakfast? :D

It's also a fantastic way to create a system that's fully optimized in pieces as opposed to having to do it all at once.
