I think liquidx and Aether are working on it.

There's a few problems, including the fact that right now Portage calls python2.2 explicitly. There's also a ton of QA work that needs to be done.

Could take a little while.

Yeah, I kinda figured...though the 2.3 changelog sounds like it shouldn't break most existing scripts too horribly, but I'm sure it needs to be put through it's paces before you can stick it out to the real world - if it DOES happen to break emerge...well...you (the end user) are pretty much screwed, huh? :)

There is a partial ebuild if you search Portage & Programming that will get you Python 2.3, but it won't replace 2.2, which as avenj said is still hard-coded into emerge. You will have to re-compile all your Python apps, so its not a simple upgrade.

I can't wait for it either. The new features sound really interesting. I havn't been coding in Python for very long now, but I must say - it is making coding exciting again.

Gotta get to some more python coding.... :)

The really annoying thing about new releases like this is that if you're writing code that is widely distributed, you can't really start depending on new features for quite a while unless you really can't do without, since users don't like to have to upgrade Python just for your app.

I really want to get my hands on the logging module... ah well
