Vmware (server and player) fail to start my virtual machine (running Win98) if there is no internet connection.
The host connects to the web via a firewall/router, and is part of a small LAN, and I can communicate with the other PCs on the LAN. If the internet connection is unavailable for any reason, vmware doesn't work. I get very long delays when trying to start the program, but eventually (after several minutes) I get to choose a virtual machine to start, but this freezes at a black screen. Eventually I get an error message saying it can't connect or something and that's it. The VM itself is always unable to connect to the internet (barred by the router).
I wasn't aware of any restrictions in using vmware without an internet connection. _________________ Things you might say if you never took Physics: "I'm overweight even though I don't overeat." - Neil deGrasse Tyson

those are most likely name resolution timeouts, set the nameserver to 127.0.0.1 on the host and see if the delays still occur. _________________ Linux user number 361815 |
