There is an error when ALSA loads it on my HP530 laptop. However it scrolls past quite quickly and I don't know where to find the error once the system has booted.

Hi there...
looks like you don't have installed the alsa drivers. You can either use the drivers from the kernel or the alsa-driver package. I'd rather recommend to use the kernel drivers.
Code: |
Device Drivers --->
<*> Sound card support --->
<M> Advanced Linux Sound Architecture --->
[*] PCI sound devices --->
<M> Intel HD Audio
|
Here you will have to select the "VIA HD-audio codec support", as I think that it should be a VIA codec that is used in this sound card.

check if you have created modul snd-hda-intel.ko:
Code: |
ls -l /lib/modules/2.6.28-rc6/kernel/sound/pci/
|
if not, you have to configurate kernel like show your_WooDness and choose
Code: |
[*] Enable generic HD-audio codec parser
|
