Hi
I want to set up a DHCP server on my laptop and share an internet connection through it to my home lan.
I found this -> http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/home-router-howto.xml .
But I don't know what are 2 ethernet cards for (WAN?)? If I connect to the internet through ppp modem do I need 2?
When I set up an internet sharing on windows through dhcp i needed only one eth. card and it worked.
I want to set up a server because:
1. I want to know how to do it.
2. In future it will be a wlan server.
3. I want to know how to set up an irc, ssh, ftp, apache (rather useful knowledge).
Regards

Think about it this way, 1 card in, 1 card out.
Your modem is attached to the "IN" and 1 card attached to the rest of your network "OUT". You only serve DHCP on your network, not the modems network, lol.
Edit: Doesn't have to be wired cards though, can be 1 wireless and 1 wired card. At least from what I've heard, never actually tried it. _________________ Linux Registered User #458185
