cant empty drive

i emerge -u nautilus and emerge -u mozilla-firebird (nautilus was done using distcc if it makes a difference) my drive filled up completely (6 gig) and stopped the compile so i removed
/usr/portage/distfiles, /usr/portage/packages, /var/tmp/portage and /var/tmp/ccache and /root/.ccache and still no room all the user directories have been emptied as well to no avail please help i really dont want to reintstall tonight

did you fscked that already drive? Might correct its spooky behavior....
If all else fails and you have another partition - make a backup and clean the partition ....
