Getting any backgrounds into the fluxbox menu was a mystery to me until I started hacking around my system. Here's what I found:

Default system images are stored in: /usr/share/commonbox/backgrounds/

The default backgrounds menu item is:
/usr/share/commonbox/imagebgmenu

You need xv installed to make this all work.

So armed, I did this:

Code:
   Download the tarball from ftp://ftp.cis.upenn.edu/pub/xv/xv-3.10a.tar.gz
   Copy the tarball to /usr/portage/distfiles/
   Run emerge xv
   Copy /usr/share/commonbox/imagebgmenu to ~/.fluxbox/
   Create the folder ~/.fluxbox/backgrounds/ and place your images there
   Edit your ~/.fluxbox/menu file and replace the following line:

[include] (/usr/share/commonbox/imagebgmenu)

with this one:

[include] (~/.fluxbox/imagebgmenu)

   Edit your ~/.fluxbox/imagebgmenu so that it is similar to mine shown here:

[submenu] (background images) {choose image...}
    [submenu] (System Images)
        [exec] (gentoo) {xv -root -rmode 5 -max -quit /usr/share/commonbox/backgrounds/gentoo.jpg}
           [exec] (potter) {xv -root -rmode 5 -max -quit /usr/share/commonbox/backgrounds/shot0001.jpg}
    [end]
    [submenu] (User Images)
           [exec] (gentoo) {xv -root -rmode 5 -max -quit ~/.fluxbox/backgrounds/gentoo-box-1280x1024.png}
   [exec] (powered by) {xv -root -rmode 5 -max -quit ~/.fluxbox/backgrounds/powered-big.png}
              [exec] (potter) {xv -root -rmode 5 -max -quit ~/.fluxbox/backgrounds/shot0001.jpg}
    [end]
[end]

   Enjoy your new backgrounds from  Settings -> background images -> User Images

It's a few steps, but this way, users have their own folders in which to store images instead of you having to provide them or allowing them write access to /usr/share/commonbox/backgrounds/. I shudder at the mere thought. :twisted:

Happy Hacking

The *box window managers have some nice utility packages that can help you in your quest for a background without resorting to XV ;)

Take a look at the x11-misc/commonbox-utils package, which includes these small, helpful apps:

Code:
/usr/bin/bsetroot
/usr/bin/bsetbg
/usr/bin/commonbox-imagebgmenugen
/usr/bin/commonbox-menugen

Actually, i was playing the DVD for my daughter and inadvertantly took a screenshot...figured I'd put the image to use for something.

Thx, enrique... hadn't had time to sit down and script any. Automation is very nice.

panthar, not meaning to irritate you but your signature doesn't make sense.
"11" means "3". It should be "there are 10 types of people" while "10" means "2". I gues you don't understand binary your self :)

It might be a joke, but i guess most people who do understand binary, don't get it.

Again, I'm not offending you, but it looks a little silly.
Greetings Wouzer51
