Hi,
my firefox keeps locking up. Just occasionally, and I can always restart (then it works fine), but obviously nobody can help me with that little info. So... how would I obtain more info so that I can get some useful help for it?

PhiJ,

Try this
Code:
mv $HOME/.mozilla $HOME/.mozilla.backup
and restart firefox.
If it still crashes post output of emerge --info

Okay, still crashes (although it hasn't for a while). Seems to be to do with npviewer.bin, which is flash related (I think it might be to do with nspluginwrapper). I discovered that the major problem was that at the crash all of my memory (1003.9MiB) and swap (494.2MiB) were being used. Closing firefox didn't help, but often leaves a little blank npviewer.bin window, which was what used all the resources.
Oh, and emerge --info is

Have you been able to consistently reproduce the crash? As example, if you go to the adobe site here, does it crash? If shockwave comes up 'not installed', and you click to install that plugin from the dialog, does FF crash?

Which versions of firefox and nspluginwrapper do you have installed?

No. For instance, visiting that site make the firefox-bin process go from 34.1 MiB to 55 MiB memory usage. It only happens occasionally (thankfully). I'm using Firefox 2.0.0.17, and have just updated my portage tree, which included nspluginwrapper 1.0.0 (I was using 0.9.91.5 before), so maybe that'll fix it. It does say it fixes crashes with Flash Player 9 Update 3 (9.0.115), but I have 9.0.124.0.

In my experience flash is totally unstable. Sometimes it just does not work at all for 2 days, then starts working great again for no apparent reason. My browser (seamonkey or FF3) will randomly freeze, flash is always the reason. Unfortunately it's hard to get along the web without it, but if you can survive a flash-free world, I'd highly recommend just getting rid of it entirely and enjoying your stable firefox. :)

I think there were also some flash-related issues that were fixed in the latest Firefox (which I know you're not even at 3 yet so it won't help you), but if you're able to upgrade to FF 3.x it might help as well.

I may well do, after I've given it a couple of weeks to see if the update helps. I usually go by a 'the devs have probably got a good reason for not updating us yet' so I'll stick with the latest one marked as stable in portage, but as usual it seems to be that it just hasn't been tested enough on amd64.

Okay, it still happens every now and then.
It just happened now, and I noticed a bit of the kernel log that would be of interest:
