I downloaded the p3 version of 1.4 followed the instructions closely doing the stage 3 install. Yet it has been compiling for the last 4 or 5 hours. I'm curious as to what point I screwed up?
I did this:
USE="bindist" emerge -k xfree
and I assumed it would use the local copy but it downloaded and recompiled. In fact it has been downloading everything and ignoring the stuff I already unpacked.
I think there may be a mistake in the docs here:
Code listing 8.4: Copying GRP files
# cp -R /mnt/cdrom/distfiles /mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/distfiles
# cp -a /mnt/cdrom/packages/ /mnt/gentoo/usr/portage/packages/
The trailing slash causes it to make
/usr/gentoo/usr/portage/packages/packages
That can't be right can it? I'm not new to linux or bsd (just new to gentoo) but this struck me as odd. |

Looks like a similar thread below... I still think it may be a doc error.
(10 minute later edit after reading the "How does GRP work")
Yep I was right, remove the trailing slash. |
