Hi all,

I've emerged ET and I've started it... I got:

ET Started VERY slow... So slow I could barely move the mouse to Quit. It was very painful. I see that the first time there was some problem initializing some drivers. What happened? How can I make it fast?
Do I need to configure something else?

Here's an important part of my X init file:
Code:

EndSection

Any ideas to help me with this would be great.

Best regards,

i believe that the ATI drivers only support 3d acceleration for cards that are 8500+... if so i'm afraid your out of luck :(

Hmmm, it seems as though direct rendering (dri) has been disabled for some reason. Using the workaround +set r_allowSoftware_GL (or whatever it was) avoids using the graphics card for acceleration altogether and just uses software rendering (incredibly slow). Please post your /var/log/XFree86.0.log.

Don't know if this will work or not, but it is worth a try. For mine (9500 Pro) I have to run ET with this command line:

Code:
et +set r_ext_compiled_vertex_array 0

Also, have you loaded the fglrx module?

Don't know if this will work or not, but it is worth a try. For mine (9500 Pro) I have to run ET with this command line:

Code:
et +set r_ext_compiled_vertex_array 0

Also, have you loaded the fglrx module?

fglrx module? How can I do that? I don't even know what that is...

Can't start ET that way...
I get:
Code:

(WW) RADEON(0): [agp] AGP not available

That is the line that explains it all. You have the radeon module loaded, it seems, but there is no agpgart. Did you remember to compile this? If you did, do an "rmmod radeon; insmod agpgart; insmod radeon" to make sure it is loaded in the right order. Also, to increase performance, I recommend you add the following to you XF86Config:

Option "EnablePageflip" "1"
Option "AGPMode" "n" (where n is the speed of your AGP bus, probably 2 or 4)

Good luck!

Oh, also guys, he is not trying to use the fglrx module from the ATI drivers, as they don't support his card. He is trying to use the straight-up dri drivers in XFree.
