Hello,

I am trying to install gentoo from the minimal amd64 2008 installation cd, and I get the error that no installation media can be found. It looks like this:

!! Media not found
>> No bootable medium found. Waiting for new devices...
>> Looking for the cdrom
!! Media not found
!! Could not find CD to boot, something else needed!

Please tell me what specs would be helpful to know, I can tell you I have an
AsRock p45-ts motherboard, which I think is been the problem. I have my cd-rom drive connected via a sata 3.0 port, which has been working well for fedora. I could just install from a usb drive, because I have at least got a minimal installation that way before. However, I would like to be sure that if I do it that way, that I can still have my cd drive later.

Gentoo is not the only OS that has given me this problem. However, except for fedora which runs fine, none of the others recognize my ethernet card: so I am still getting farther.

You have no idea how grateful I would be to anyone who could help me figure this out! Thanks in advance.

Try a sysrescue CD. It works with x86 and x86_64 (amd64). It's a better disk, and it's all that when it comes to installing Gentoo. It even offers a working GUI and Firefox, so you can do a handbook install in a GUI. It rocks!

Blessed be!
Pappy
