|
|
Hi.
Everytime I quit X (WM logout or ctrl-alt-backspace), it hangs and becomes irresponsive, with a frozen mouse pointer on a black screen, just right after everything has shut down normally. It doesn't crash everything, though, I can still shutdown remotely e.g.
I'm on xorg-server 1.5.3-r1 (xorg-x11-7.4), xf86-video-ati-6.10.0. It happens both my hosts, one with X1400, one X1200. Everything else X-related works fine.
Any clues appreciated.
Cheers
Daniel

I've had this problem several times, on various machines.
I still don't know why. I've filed bug reports.
But since I had this problem during set-up and had no files to lose, I redid the Gentoo install from scratch and installed everything stable - no ~arch. This confirms everything CAN work. Then I add ~arch to make.conf and run a world update. This usually gets the latest-and-greatest up and running for me.
This is probably a slow and stupid way to do it, but I have more success with running ~arch this way than doing ~arch from the beginning. _________________ decibel Linux: https://decibellinux.org

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately, a complete system on ~arch is nothing I can afford here right now. Will try to install some more packages with ~arch around the X server. |

Is there anything suspicious towards the end of /var/log/Xorg.0.log or /var/log/Xorg.0.log.old? |

Doesn't seem so. These are the last lines:
Code: | (II) config/hal: Adding input device AT Translated Set 2 keyboard
(II) evdev brain: Rescanning devices (2).
(**) AT Translated Set 2 keyboard-isa0060/serio0/input0: always reports core events
(**) Option "XkbModel" "evdev"
(**) Option "XkbLayout" "de"
(**) Option "XkbVariant" "nodeadkeys"
(II) XINPUT: Adding extended input device "AT Translated Set 2 keyboard-isa0060/serio0/input0" (type: KEYBOARD)
(II) AT Translated Set 2 keyboard-isa0060/serio0/input0: Init
(II) AT Translated Set 2 keyboard-isa0060/serio0/input0: On
exaCopyDirty: Pending damage region empty!
(II) Microsoft Microsoft 5-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM)-usb-0000:00:13.0-1/input0: Off
(II) Microsoft Microsoft 5-Button Mouse with IntelliEye(TM)-usb-0000:00:13.0-1/input0: Off
(II) UnloadModule: "evdev" |
with the last three lines being added on shutdown. |

Same issue, same entries in log file. After quiting window manager (fluxbox or any other window manager), screen goes blank, keyboard is not found. I can log in from another box on ssh, but the only way to recover without doing that is hard reset. _________________ Intellectual dishonesty is a mortal sin. |

Yes, I do, and all X is configured via hal.
I had evdev-1.1.5-r2 and just upgraded to 2.1.1, and that actually did the trick! Thanks for the hint, audiodef.

Wol hangs head in shame. I did manage to figure it out before your note, but still embarassing. _________________ Intellectual dishonesty is a mortal sin. |
