I've been trying to get my laptop / pcmcia card to work under gentoo so when genkernel came out I tried it. Now the problem is I get left at my login and my keyboard is frozen....any ideas? I'm running an HP laptop with gentoo-sources compiled via genkernel.

Maybe you didn't compile a keyboard support into your kernel? (or a module which should be "keybdev.o")

actually, under genkernel, you dont do that. Its supposed to use the same setup that the livecd had. So if the livecd got him that far then genkernel should have put all the right things in.

However I have also had problems using genkernel. I would seriously advice you to go to the manual version of building the kernel. I dont think all the bugs have been worked out of genkernel.

just my 2 cents

I tried genkernel because I can't get my pcmcia wireless card to work, and the best I've gotten it to work on is the livecd (although I can't find my AP if anybody has any tips on that besides knoppix...it doesn't work.) I have successfully done a true compile (without pcmcia support because that's what's breaking my laptop) but I can't get console framebuffer support to work...frustrating. :)
