I just re-emerged my system (emerge -e system) and got the same error

X can be started with my previously working xorg.conf there however is only 2-4 dots being displayed on the display and a red-white lines at the upper border == corruption

the problem: the more often I start X the more they become

the applications seem to launch fine from what I can hear -> hdd busy and htop unfortunately I have no visual access to the GUI :(

any news ? :(

I've tried re-emerging fglrx to fix it but to no avail

re-emerge everything xf86-video* or xf86-input*

ensure that you DON'T have anything "unstable" installed concerning the X-server (I mean anything from the x11-overlay)

followed instructions below for radeonHD

http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/RadeonHD

these steps alone did not work, tried to run
X - configure but it failed with same errors.
going to change the driver in my make.conf to
radeonhd.

simply changing the driver to radeonhd did not
work, i still receive an error with X -configure

going to try and re-emerge xorg-server and
xorg-x11 with the driver still radeonhd in
make.conf.

still receive an error when trying to run
X -configure. the error always says

"fglrx: no matching Device section for PCI:XXX:X:X"

not sure why i'm getting these errors, thought
by taking the steps above would eliminate the
fglrx drivers?

================================================

going back to fglrx drivers and see what happens
going to follow intstructions below

http://en.gentoo-wiki.com/wiki/Fglrx

putting fglrx back into make.conf and re-emerging
xorg-server and x11-base

followed all instructions within fglrx wiki
but with absolutely no success?

 4639 ?        00:00:00 hald-addon-stor
 4641 ?        00:00:00 hald-addon-stor

also tried ati's closed source drivers located here

http://ati.amd.com/support/driver.html

ran the .run file with defaults but still kept getting the same fglrx error from above?

i could drop back to an older kernel but i'm hoping to stick with the 2.6.28 kernel for ext4.

Try Changing the PCI Bus ID to this:

Code:
BusID       "PCI:1:0:0"

I had to do that with most of my fresh fglrx installs

Best, and I hope that helps!
