[SOLVED]EeePC 1000H xorg-server 1.5 - lower res doesn't work

The solution for this was masking the 2.6.1 xf86-video-intel driver and downgrading; I could have sworn I'd tried that already, but evidently not ^^)

Apologies if this is already covered somewhere, but I can't find any reference to this particular issue anywhere in either the forums or the Gentoo bugzilla lists.

I just recently upgraded xorg to 1.5 in order to get all the various bits needed to run proper OpenGL my EeePC. To that end, the upgrade has worked, I have glxinfo reporting "yes" to direct rendering, glxgears is holding at a steady 60fps, and I've even got Compiz Fusion up and running (first time I've ever done that ^^)

However, for some reason, when I now try to change resolutions to something below the maximum of 1024x600, the screen goes blank. It does appear to correctly change the resolution (for example, if I switch to 800x600, then I get two black bars down the sides of the screen as you would expect), however the desktop does not display again (usually it will appear as a block of solid colour).

I've attempted to downgrade back to 1.3 again, and the issue went away. Going back to 1.5 caused the problem to return. I tried to grab the specific mode lines being used in 1.3 and manually insert them into my xorg.conf file, but it didn't make a difference.

Has anyone else seen this problem before, and if so, what would be the likely fix for it? I've attached my emerge --info output, as well as my xorg.conf file and the output from the xorg.0.log file, I hope this provides enough info for someone to give me some advice

I've got a very similar issue on my Acer Aspire One since I updated to xorg-server-1.5.3 and xf86-video-intel-2.6.1.
Which version of the intel driver are you using?

The bad thing is, that I am away from home for the next 2 weeks, and I need my AAO, so I only have time till monday to fix this.

OK, I went back to the previous version of the intel driver and it helped for me:

Try to put "=x11-drivers/xf86-video-intel-2.6.1" in your /etc/portage/package.mask and reemerge the package.

I hope this helps, and maybe this will be fixed in the next version.

Bah, I knew I forgot something

I'm using the same versions as you Dorsai. If you really need the smaller resolutions and 3D isn't an issue for you, downgrade back to the stable branch and you'll get them back.

Incidentally, I tried also downgrading and upgrading my kernel (I'm running gentoo sources 2.4.28 right now); 2.4.27 didn't fix the resolution problem however caused other issues with the 3D, and 2.4.29-rc3 seems to put the screen into 1024x??? (it wouldn't scroll, so I'm not sure how large it actually was), blocked any resolution changes, and also unlocked my 60fps on glxgears.

Incidentally though, since the rt2860sta module doesn't work on 2.4.29-rc3 yet, upgrading it isn't an option at present since I'd lose my wireless

I could have sworn I'd already tried downgrading the driver to an earlier version. I must have missed something somewhere *laughs* Thanks Dorsai!
