Mmmm maybe we should tell upstream about raster issues
You can open that bug and we can handle it from there . Make sure to assing it to us ( qt_AT_gentoo.org ). That would have been really help full
**** GENERAL INFO ******
Ok people, I need to give you some general directions on how we ll handle the bugs from now on
If you are having problems with kde:4.2+qt-4.5 follow those steps
1) Open a bug on http://bugs.kde.org
2) Open a bug on our bugzilla https://bugs.gentoo.org and assign it to kde_AT_gentoo.org
3) Paste the link from upstream bug on the bug you opened on Gentoo bugzilla
4) We ll take it from there. Just be around in case we need you to provide more info to us
This might sound too much but it will really help us track all the problems and poke upstream about that. So it is just a 5' work that might help hundreds of other users
You can always not open a bug on our bugzilla and monitor it yourself but I would prefer to know all the problems and the possible patches that fix them in order to apply them on portage
Thank you all for your contribution

I had the same thing, I re-emerged the whole of KDE while I was out at work, still did not work. Moved the ~/.kde4 folder and it worked fine. When re-configuring stuff again, adding the quick launch widget cause the same fault. Other than that it all works fine. |

After qt-*-4.5_rc1 upgrade my fonts in qt applications and thus in kde are totally unreadable. I have rebuilt kdelibs pykde4 qscintilla kde-base/plasma-workspace kde-base/plasma-apps kde-base/kdeplasma-addons kde-base/libplasmaclock but that does not seem to make it better. Have i forgot to rebuild something? _________________ http://xkcd.com/456/ |

kopete animated emoticons don't play well with qt 4.5_rc1
more info @ https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=258823
jormaa: you could try rebuilding everything that depends on qt-gui:
Code: | emerge -av1 `equery depends qt-gui | cut -d" " -f1 | sed "s/^/=/"` |

Ok, I used the set and almost everything seems to work so far. The sys-tray icon are rendered correctly now, my xkcd widget works and the desktop feels a little bit faster. The only downside so far, Lancelot quit working. |

you guys that want to build raster support can for the speed, and if you want desktop effects just start kwin with native instead of raster.
Code: | kwin --replace --graphicssystem native |
If you want kwin to always start that way, you can do it just like compiz is done.
create a /etc/env.d/99kde-env and in it put similar to
Code: | KDEWM="/usr/local/sbin/kwinreplace" |
then create it .. Code: | echo "kwin --replace --graphicssystem native" > /usr/local/sbin/kwinreplace |
make it executable Code: | chmod +x /usr/local/sbin/kwinreplace |
env-update and restart kde _________________ - Failure is not an option. It's bundled with your software. |

I have the same problem with 3 machines. If I enable raster, kdm crash. I suppose I can make a workaround as the previous post, but is normal? Or I missing something? |

Is anyone else having problems with akregator? I used to have a problem with it where it would occasionally lose the spacing and selection of columns I wanted displayed in its list views. Now rebuilt against qt-4.5rc1, it can't store the values, as soon as I move a column, and then move to another feed, the columns all reset.
I recompiled akregator, kdelibs, the plasma builds, and kdepimlibs. Anything else relevant? |

Anyone else having problems with knotify? Notifications (Sounds when mail arrives for example!) do not work anymore here.
from ~/.xsession-errors
Code: |
...
kwin(8932)/kdeui (KNotification) KNotification::slotReceivedIdError: Error whilecontacting notify daemon "No such method 'event' in interface 'org.kde.KNotify' at object path '/Notify' (signature 'sssayasx')"
kontact(137554)/kmail KMKernel::getFolder: Folder not found: "/Local"

Still rebuilding kdelibs/qscintilla/PyQt4, so haven't been able to check if that fixes it.
Something I have noticed is that if I start a Qt/KDE app from a 'fail-proof' session, the fonts display correctly. It is only when I start a 4.2 session that I have corrupt fonts. Also, fonts display fine in plasma. *goes to look for possible bugs* _________________ www.gentoo.org.au || #gentoo-au |

Disabling anti-aliasing made fonts readable again. _________________ www.gentoo.org.au || #gentoo-au |

I also upgraded to qt-4.5_rc1 recently and the systray icons have gone missing. They are there... just not visible any more. I tried recompiling all qt packages and all of kde-4.2 but the problem still persists.
How is this fixed? |

Did you enable the new UDE-Flag "raster"? If you did,
try to disable it, it's somehow experimental and killed my kwin theme
and the transparent icons in my systray _________________ boris64.net 200x / visit my desktop / try these tiny kernel patches |

What packages use that flag? I definitely didn't explicitly enabled it. |
