I see that qt 4.5 rc1 as hit the tree. Is kde 4.2 + qt 4.5 recommended moving forward? or are things going to break? How much testing has really been done with this combo? |

I am on KDE 4.2 and qt-4.5_rc1. It is working very well for me, the only problem that I have is that I can not add widgets to the desktop but then I had the same problem with qt-4.4. Other than that, plasma feels smoother (referring to the bug about system tray background not being transparent - that one is completely solved with qt-4.5).
I would say switch to 4.5 - just rebuild kdelibs, pykde4, qscintilla and all plasma related stuff. _________________ Who shall guard the guards? |

In my experience plasma is even more happy with qt-4.5 as some bugs causing plasma to crash with 4.4.2 have been fixed. |

Installed the qt-4.5_rc1 stuff overnight (after a bit of wrangling on bugzilla). It's messed up my fonts in KDE (spacing doesn't look right), not unusably so - I've rebuilt kdelibs and PyQT4 as advised by the new qt ebuilds - is there anything else that needs to be rebuilt to fix the fonts?
Also, the new qt and latest nvidia drivers (180.29) do not seem to like each other - direct rendering is on, but glxgears runs at 3fps and gl xscreensavers are equally painful. Reverting to the 180.27 beta driver appears to be fine though, oddly.
I may revert to qt-4.4 to check the nvidia-driver thing, and see if I get my nice fonts back. _________________ Jingle Jangle Jewellery |

Do you have kdm-4.2.0-r1? It contains the fix for crash with 4.5. _________________ Who shall guard the guards? |

One new problem with qt-4.5 - lancelot launcher does not work - if I click on Internet (for eg.) in Applications, I can not see the Internet Applications. The menu does not change, it still shows my favourites. _________________ Who shall guard the guards? |

This is another problem - I'd started to use that due to other issues, and now after restarting KDE my lancelot launcher menu is _completely_ empty.
Am downgrading back to 4.4.2 as I type this.
EDIT - On completion of downgrade, lancelot is back fine (maybe just the widgets needed recompiled against 4.5?), fonts are OK again, but latest nvidia-drivers still dreadful. So that isn't qt's fault. _________________ Jingle Jangle Jewellery |

If you use antialiasing change hinting style from medium (or full) to slight. It solved problem for me. _________________ GTK2/GNOME - The weakest link! |

NO, even after recompiling the widgets (lancelot in kde-4.2 is part of kdeplasma-addons) the lancelot launcher does not work. I am going to report this on bugzilla.

Thanks for this bug. We are monitoring this. Keep in mind ( and as i posted there ) that kde upstream is already aware of this |

I've just installed qt 4.5.0_rc1. Now KDE doesn't want to run anymore. Kdm works and after login I see the splash screen and then: "The application Plasma Workspace (plasma) crashed and caused signal 11 (SIGSEGV).". I've allready reemerged kdelibs, PyQt4, plasma-workplace, plasma-apps and plasma-addons. What else? |

Hm, libplasma is not installed at all.
I tried rebuilding libplasmaclock, didn't help. |

Hello,
if i unmask qt-4.5 i get the problem that kdelibs are blocking. Please have a look:
Code: |
emerge -Dau world
[ebuild U ] net-misc/rsync-3.0.5 [3.0.4]
[ebuild U ] sys-apps/man-pages-3.17 [3.16]
[ebuild UD] kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.9-r4 [3.5.10-r2] USE="-kdeenablefinal% -xinerama%"
[ebuild U ] media-libs/libkdcraw-0.1.7 [0.1.4-r1]
[ebuild U ] x11-libs/qt-core-4.5.0_rc1 [4.4.2] USE="glib* -custom-cxxflags%"
[ebuild U ] x11-libs/qt-dbus-4.5.0_rc1 [4.4.2] USE="-custom-cxxflags%"
[ebuild U ] x11-libs/qt-sql-4.5.0_rc1 [4.4.2] USE="-custom-cxxflags%"
[ebuild U ] x11-libs/qt-script-4.5.0_rc1 [4.4.2] USE="-custom-cxxflags%"
[ebuild U ] x11-libs/qt-gui-4.5.0_rc1 [4.4.2-r1] USE="glib* gtkstyle%* -custom-cxxflags% -raster%"
[ebuild U ] x11-libs/qt-qt3support-4.5.0_rc1 [4.4.2] USE="-custom-cxxflags% -phonon%"
[blocks B ] <kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.10 ("<kde-base/kdelibs-3.5.10" is blocking kde-base/kdelibs-4.2.0-r2)
|
What can i do? |

Thanks for the tip!
So here I go re-emerging qt-4.5 again. |

Hi folks,
after updating to all those qt-*-4.5_rc1 packets i got some
strange errors:
-preview of files in dolphin crashes dolphin instantly
-buttons of my favorite plastik kwin theme disappeared(?)
-the middle mouse button does not work in konqueror
(for example to open an url in a new tab), while it does
in every other kde related application(?)
I already rebuilt @kde-4.2 and those packages like kdelibs/themes/styles/qscintilla/pyqt4.
I used the new "raster" USE flag. Any one having the same problems? Any hints?
Thank you in advance _________________ boris64.net 200x / visit my desktop / try these tiny kernel patches |

Is it possible to get a list of packages that depend on qt to rebuild all of them? |

If you are using portage-2.2 there is a set for qt-all-4.5. |

This is qt irrelevant. And yes it is valid. You need to upgrade kdelibs to 3.5.10 |

Most of them are valid and are fixed by kde developers. I ll try to bring a shiny new qt-gui-4.5.0-r1.ebuild with all those patches as soon as possible |

Also note that "raster" is a new feature hence quite unteaster ( even though nokia says it is ok to use it ). You might want to disable it |

Yet another post
@boris64
As I can see some of them are not fixed
Could you please open a new bug on us or kde bugzilla about the dolphin crash?
If you open it to our bugzilla make sure to assign it to qt_at_gentoo.org. Otherwise if you put it directly to kde bugzilla ( which I recommend ) could you
please paste the link here?
Thanks a lot |

Yeah, disabling that new shiny USE flag fixed the dolphin
preview related crash and brought back the buttons on my
plastik kwin theme
Now only this strange non-working MMB in konqueror remains
unsolved here. Is there no one else having the same issue?
@Hwoarang
I guess there's no need anymore for a bug report, because
"raster" is a bit too experimental yet, right?
Anyway, thanks for helping out _________________ boris64.net 200x / visit my desktop / try these tiny kernel patches |
