Easy test: ~arch the latest version of kde-frameworks/kdesignerplugin ?
EDIT/PS: You don't need to update @system every time. |

I deleted kde-frameworks/kdesignerplugin (and kde-frameworks/kdelibs4support and kde-plasma/plasma-workspace), which I had for not used packages and...
Everything works now!
Thank you so much!!! |

I started to get this error yesterday after I updated, and now again when I did another sync. I'm having trouble understanding what's going on here (in general) when these errors occur. Simpler errors with other packages I've been able to figure out and correct but this one seems to have a lot going on.
Is this saying the other packages won't work with qtcore-5.15.3 so it won't install it?

Without knowing your emerge command, add --deep, then increase --backtrack value if that didn't help. |

I wasn't aware of that backtrack parameter, but I just picked 30 (random) and that fixed it. Thanks! |

Dear all,
I am also running into some qt-update trouble since a few days that I simply don't manage to resolve. I hope you can help me to get along...

If I were to guess, for one thing you're likely missing accept_keywords on the newly needed dev-qt/qtwaylandscanner and portage tries to find an alternate solution and failing (thus doesn't mention it), although you could preferably stick to stable qt/kde and upgrade when you're meant to (aka when it's stabilized). |

Thanks! Your answer directed me in the right direction. Apart from qtwaylandscanner, there was a typo in my package.keyword file concerning qthelp and the latest version of qdbus is in the :0 slot and not in the :5 slot, so unmasking dev-qt/qdbus:0 as well finally solved all blocks an I can happily compile things now |

Hi,
the pending update of qt5 blocks the update world I wanted to undertake today. There are other slot conflicts too. So what should I do to single out the qt related problems?
Btw., increasing the --backtrack value doesn't seem to have any effect.
Kind regards,
Andreas |

You likely have a a different blocker unrelated to Qt. What are the things marked as 'B' blockers? |

Well, I'm referring to the following lines:

I can't see a Qt issue here. I was asking about the 'B' listed blockers in the package list above that output.
How high did you set --backtrack? What is your *exact* emerge command? Maybe you want to create a separate bug and provide *full* output. |

This is my emerge-command:
emerge -vpuDN --verbose-conflicts --backtrack=500 @world
After issuing it, there's no list of packages that would be merged, just above mentioned lines regarding the slot conflict. |

I'm seeing lines like "dev-qt/qtgui-5.15.4-r2:5/5.15.4::poly-c" and "smplayer::poly-c" in here.
I don't know what that is about and recommend removing that overlay if you don't know what you have added it for. I certainly don't know why it forks Qt ebuilds.
Make sure to cleanup any world file cruft revealed by:
Code: | $ grep dev-qt /var/lib/portage/world |
Check for any dev-qt entries in your /etc/portage dirs:
Code: | $ grep -R dev-qt /etc/portage |
|

Ok, after deleting the dev-qt ebuilds from the poly-c repository, I only have one entry in /etc/portage/package.accept_keywords/ directory, which is dev-qt/qtquicktimeline. I need this package as a dependency of qtcreator.
So I uploaded the entire output of emerge -pvuUDN --verbose-conflicts --backtrack=400 @world to the following link
https://nopaste.net/zXovWAQjjW

I have two computers running Gentoo - a desktop updated usually daily and a laptop updated usually weekly.
I was able to get the desktop to update with --backtrack=30 but I can't update the laptop at all, even increasing the --backtrack all the way up to 100000.
Does anyone have any other suggestions? |

Actually the problem on the laptop was caused by a typo in package.mask. --backtrack 30 worked fine once I fixed it. |

I haven't updated my Gentoo system for a while and i can't get my head around the following issue :
Code: | !!! The slot conflict(s) shown above involve package(s) which may need to
!!! be rebuilt in order to solve the conflict(s). However, the following
!!! package(s) cannot be rebuilt for the reason(s) shown:
(dev-qt/qtgui-5.15.2-r16:5/5.15.2::gentoo, installed): ebuild is masked or unavailable
(dev-qt/qtcore-5.15.2-r14:5/5.15.2::gentoo, installed): ebuild is masked or unavailable
(media-libs/harfbuzz-3.2.0:0/3.0.0::gentoo, installed): ebuild is masked or unavailable
(dev-libs/boost-1.78.0-r2:0/1.78.0::gentoo, installed): ebuild is masked or unavailable
It may be possible to solve this problem by using package.mask to
prevent one of those packages from being selected. However, it is also
possible that conflicting dependencies exist such that they are
impossible to satisfy simultaneously. If such a conflict exists in
the dependencies of two different packages, then those packages can
not be installed simultaneously.
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.
* Error: The above package list contains packages which cannot be
* installed at the same time on the same system.

I don't really how to solve this issue.
Emerge @world doesn't help.
I guess the blocks are due to the fact i haven't update my system for a long time.
Thank you in advance for your help |

I don't really how to solve this issue.
Emerge @world doesn't help.
I guess the blocks are due to the fact i haven't update my system for a long time.
Thank you in advance for your help |
A good amount of the issues stem from libreoffice-bin being installed and pointing to library subslots that no longer exist.
It seems this ebuild was updated but you still have the old references.
Best to temporarily remove it, and delete any binpkg you might have, and reinstall after the upgrade. |

Thank you a lot!
I just removed libreoffce-bin but it didn't help.
Code: |
...
[blocks b ] <kde-plasma/plasma-desktop-5.23.90:5 ("<kde-plasma/plasma-desktop-5.23.90:5" is soft blocking kde-plasma/plasma-workspace-5.24.6)
[blocks B ] <dev-qt/qtcore-5.15.3:5 ("<dev-qt/qtcore-5.15.3:5" is soft blocking dev-qt/qtchooser-66-r2)
...
!!! The slot conflict(s) shown above involve package(s) which may need to
!!! be rebuilt in order to solve the conflict(s). However, the following
!!! package(s) cannot be rebuilt for the reason(s) shown:
(dev-qt/qtgui-5.15.2-r16:5/5.15.2::gentoo, installed): ebuild is masked or unavailable
(dev-qt/qtcore-5.15.2-r14:5/5.15.2::gentoo, installed): ebuild is masked or unavailable
(dev-libs/boost-1.78.0-r2:0/1.78.0::gentoo, installed): ebuild is masked or unavailable
(media-libs/harfbuzz-3.2.0:0/3.0.0::gentoo, installed): ebuild is masked or unavailable
You may want to try a larger value of
the --backtrack option, such as --backtrack=30, in order to see if
that will solve this conflict automatically.
For more information, see MASKED PACKAGES section in the emerge man
page or refer to the Gentoo Handbook.

While it may have not been a complete solution, it certainly does improve things.
But to know for sure, post the entire output for review. This output and the previous one should be different in many ways. |

Sure, you're right. It was a first step.

Other problem packages noticed..
The key one being:
media-sound/welle-io (installed from an unknown overlay) requires a subslot of qtquickcontrols which no longer exists and is blocking the whole chain
Once that is solved, these may or may not go away:
app-crypt/p11-kit is not being rebuilt for whatever reason to take advantage of new libffi
x11-drivers/xf86-input-evdev and x11-drivers/xf86-video-ati are not being rebuilt for the new xorg like they should |

I feel like an idiot! I saw an issue about the welle-io packages but I didn't see that it was blocking the whole upgrade
Thank you a lot, your comments solved my issue and sorry for not looking hard enough. |
