OK, here's some background. I keep getting this error. It crops up only while booted under the LiveCD (as far as I remember). Generally it happens when I try to log into another terminal (alt F2, alt F3, alt F4). immediately after typing root and hitting enter, I get this:
Code: | Unable to handle kernel NULL pointer dereference at virtual address 00000000
Printing eip:
00000000
Oops: 0000
CPU: 0
EIP: 0010:[<00000000>] Tainted GF
EFLAGS: 00010206

ds: 0018 es: 0018 ss: 0018
Process login (pid: 9327, stackpage=c4a35000)
Stack: ...
Call Trace: ...
Code: Bad EIP value. |
I have the Stack and Call Trace hex numbers recorded if anyone needs to see them.
Sometimes this error will happen when doing a command other than login, but only rarely.
Here are my specs:

I don't know wether there is someone with great knowledge on that so, if you see no one answers you, fill a bug report. I'm sure developers can give you a hand on that! |

Compile your kernel with symbols and show the ksymoops output, the hex values are pretty useless. _________________ Think about your breathing.

Well, it could be a bug, but I got the exact same thing and it turned out to be bad memory. Try out memtest86 [http://www.memtest86.com/] and see if you get any errors. _________________ Tim ODonnell (trying to be the most famous me). |
