I am a gentoo newbie, but I have managed to install and get everything working - I have just installed xfce, which makes things a little easier on the eye. The documentation is really good, thank you.
But now that I know and understand a bit more of what I am doing, rather than blindly following the handbook, I think I am going to start from scratch again to get everything "just right".
I have a socket 754 Sempron 3100+ (32 bit), which is the right stage3 to start from? I used the funtoo Athlonxp stage3, is this correct? There's also i686, x86 and amd64 (I think only for 64bit?). Should a newbie stay away from funtoo altogether?
Also, when configuring the kernel, which processor family should I choose? Athlon/Duron/K7 or Opteron/Athlon64/K8 ?
I think my processor is K8, but it's 32bit, does this make a difference? |

I always recommend a I686 stage when someone want to run with a 32 bits installation. |
