The other day I compiled some updates and suddenly kded4 pops up,tells me the cpu is at 121 degrees and shuts down the box.

There is no way in hell the cpu (4300@3g) goes to 121 - I got that thing checked in every way possible and it never went above 70.Where does kded get that info? Can't be lmsensors because that shows a correct temp.

put computer in freezer and try again.

prolly got the data from acpi, which tends to be actually more accurate than lm_sensors.

The way I look at it the BIOS shuts the box down at 80.There is no way it went to 121 even with a fan failure.

Forget about GPU's - those things run wayy hotter than CPU's.

There are/have been/whatever some laptop CPU's that are dseigned to run around 100 dgrees but no desktop pieces.
