|

Hi,
Since I've installed KDE 4.2 on my laptop (Acer Aspire 6930), I can't see anything on the normal terminal anymore. Only a black screen.
* Ctrl-Alt-F1
* When shutting down (no visible shutdown-procedure)
* Using KDM to try a console login
The laptop has an NVidia card and I am using nvidia drivers. They work, as I have 3D acceleration and compositing in KDE 4.2. I've also upgraded to the latest ~amd64 xorg-x11 with no problems. But this did not solve the terminal problem.
I know at least one other person I met on #gentoo-kde has the exact same problem.
I would appreciate some help with this.
Thanks in advance! |

I've had problems from time to time with nvidia-drivers and the console framebuffer (vesafb or uvesafb or something like that). Do you have the framebuffer compiled into your kernel ? If so, you might want to disable it, and just use the VGA console. It sucks, because I really liked having the spiffy fbcondecor boot splash and all the rest. And pretty fonts on the console. And a console that isn't 80x25 or whatever.
But my console has been a lot more stable since I dumped uvesafb and went back to plain vgacon. |

Nope. I don't use a framebuffer. Just the normal console would be fine. But no luck. |
