Hi,
I'm setting up Gentoo on a PC with VMWare. Using VMWare I've set up my partitions, and everything is going ok. I'm now at the point where I have to download the Stage3 tar file. I have already downloaded it and it is saved on my desktop (outside of VMWare). My question is, how do I move it from the desktop to my newly created gentoo folder inside VMWare?
Any suggestions?
Thanks

The easiest way is to use the system rescue cd to boot the virtual machine and install using system rescue. The system rescue cd can bring up a nice graphical interface where you can use firefox to download the stage3. Then it is basically just a matter for following the installation handbook.
I don't know if NFS is available to you in the virtual machine. If it were, I suppose you could set up a NFS share on the host and mount it in the virtual machine. The alternatives are (possibly) usb stick or CD. Again, I am not sure if whatever it is you are using to install the VM will work with the usb or CD. _________________ jfp |

hi,
did you already install vmware tools?
with this tools you'll be able to build a shared folder between your host system & guest system, that's very usefull.
in vmware interface u go to Settings > Options and click Shared folders.
that should do the trick. |

Hi,
Thanks, I'm going to try installing the VMWare tools and see if that works for me.
Thanks for the suggestions...

With kernel 2.6.27 (possibly) and kernel 2.6.28 (definitely) you will need to use open-vm-tools-0.0.20090121.142982 in order to get around a compile error. _________________ jfp |
