Enable all the IDE and SATA controllers in the kernel, and see if it picks out the one you need?

Try sending the results of lspci -n to this site. It is very accurate, and up to date as of 2.6.28.1.

If you'd rather, you can post your kernel .config as well as the results of the above and cat /proc/cpuinfo, and /etc/fstab, and I'll take a look at your kernel and get things running.
