dont get me wrong - i have no problem that someone is making money by selling gentoo, but posts like this one:
https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?t=74080
make me feel that i work on a help desk rather than beeing just a guy in a friendly community. since the selling of installation cds started, more and more people appear with an attitude like we have to help them, because, well, they paid for it...
i have to admit that this makes me feel a bit awkward - just wondered what u guys and gals think about it... _________________ To an engineer the glass is neither half full, nor half empty - it is just twice as big as it needs to be. |

True. No one is being paid to do this. However, posts like that don't bother me. Posts where people ask for something to be done *right* now bother me. Here's an example of what I mean:
example wrote: | Subject: My big project!! HELP NOW!!
I'm going to flunk out of college if one of you doesn't write my four week coding project for my networking class for me RIGHT NOW!! Here's the URL to the homework description: http://example.edu/~loser/ |
So it could be far worse... _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

I did notice the same thing.
Especially topic titles like: --URGENT-- NEED HELP NOW !!!!!!
start getting on my nerves.
Some people have real attitude problems. I tend to ignore them.
I won't waste my time on them |

I like to help out if I can but these forums are so, so, so full of information. If every new user atleast tried to search first we wouldn't have so many dups and the information would be alot easier to find. I don't think this is like a commercial helpdesk. What I hate is when someone can't get something working after a hour and post the question and relpys something to it once a hour to get a answer and when in 3 hours noone has come up with a solluttion comes the familiar
"Well screw this im going back to <insert distro> atleast everything worked there. Gentoo is crap"
God how I hate it.
At that point I'm not helping anymore. I mean is if you really want a out of the box working distro get one. Gentoo might be a little tricky. That's why I love it ( and my gf, in case she sees this ) _________________ A bus station is where a bus stops, a train station is where a train stops. On
my desk I have a work station..

"Well screw this im going back to <insert distro> atleast everything worked there. It is frustrating to have a problem with your comuputer. _________________ if i never try anything, i never learn anything..

opps - thx - anyway, a girfriend like gentoo wouldnt be bad, wouldnt it? quick, flexible, perfect and just tricky enough to stay interesting - ok enough OT now... _________________ To an engineer the glass is neither half full, nor half empty - it is just twice as big as it needs to be. |
