I use terminator (multiplexes gnome-terminals) and screen all day. I verified the same behavior on plain gnome-terminal.
When closing terminals by typing 'exit', the cursor disappears, and input is ignored, but the window does not close. Right-clicking the window and choosing the context menu 'close window' truly exits.
Any idea what caused this?
Thanks. |

Thanks for the suggestion. No error output, though. I recompiled gnome-terminal, opened one, and typed 'gnome-terminal'. The prompt returned without blocking, but the new gnome-terminal exhibits the same exit but won't close behavior. No error output appears in the original terminal.
Thanks. |

If you upgraded to nvidia-driver-180.35 I recommend to downgrade it. |

revdep-rebuild finds no broken packages. nvidia-driver-180.35 is the culprit, I emerged that this morning. Thanks for the tip.
Grrr. Closed source drivers have no justification to exist. |

Does anyone know enough about terminal exit codes to file a bug on this? I would expect some ANSI sequence, since it behaves the same within character modes, such as screen or exiting from su.
Why an X driver would have any isolated symptom from such a thing is beyond comprehension. |

This also fixed a problem I had exiting out of a KDE session. |

I encountered the exact same issue, only I was also unable to interrupt programs (ctrl-c), background them (ctrl-z) among other amazingly annoying things (gnome-screensaver wouldn't exit, had to be killed from the command line). Downgrading now. |

Fixed as in downgrading the nvidia driver fixes, or someone has found a fix?
Edit: Nevermind, read DeathAndTaxes 2nd-previous post. |
