Opon start I can already see these:

What's worse, from gnome-terminal when I type "exit", it prints logout, hangs and creates a zombie bash process.
Has anyone seen this behavior? |

Are you using the latest nvidia drivers (x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-180.35)?
If so, mask them, they cause weird issues like you are seeing (multiple posts on this).
