Damn thing just wont boot ahhhhhhhhhhhhh

k... this is not my first install of gentoo my other 3 went fine all using 1.3a on either xp1500 or xp 1600 chips, well my new install with a xp1900 seemed to go fine until i go to boot up I get the splash select gentoo and then i get....
Booting Xerces
root (hd1,0)
filesystem type is ext2fs . partition type 0x83
kernel /boot/bzImage root=/dev/hdb3
[ linux-bzImage , setup = 0xc00 size= 0x1650fb]

and it just hangs. Ive read a ton of posts, reinstalled, changed settings but nothing seems to work BTW it'll boot to my winxp no prob. What am i missing here??? Ive also tried the 1.1 & 1.2 thinking it may be a problem with gcc 3 still no luck. Does gentoo not like xp1900 ?????.ps Ive also tried it without my winxp hd attached any advice would be good thanks

Just for fun, what is your menu.lst file? What are your partitions? What are the BIOS
settings for LBA mode? Are you using RAID or a PCI controller? Have you tried recopying
the bzImage file back to /boot?

no raid or pci cards standard auto setup in bios LBA using latest bios for the board hd 30g ,yes i tried recopying bzImage back to /boot , yes boot was mounted.......lol

Your root partition is definately /dev/hdb3?

ya im positive it is I also did it in settings as hdb1 hdb2 still to no avail. also rebuilt it as a stnd alone hd set as hda still same problem. Look Im an electrical tech and i keep tellin my guys RTFM dont bug me, but this has really got me stumped. I swear im on my 6th reinstall thank god for for a fast connection........lol. .........

have you tried booting from a grub floppy and entering in the parameters manually at the grub prompt
