I'm in the process of installing Gentoo (almost everything done, just setting up system logging and other small stuff) and I'm trying to decide what desktop environment I should use.
I'm running on a Compaq Armada 7370, 233Mhz with 96MB.
My preferred choice is KDE, as I like having the program interaction and the general feel of it, however I'm not sure if the speed will be very good and I haven't heard from anyone who has run a similar setup. I had KDE on my laptop earlier with Vector Linux and it ran at an ok speed, but I am wondering if because I'm using Gentoo that it will be significantly faster (around the speed of maybe Win98 on a similar system? that would)
I've heard heaps of praise for fluxbox, but I haven't tried it yet as this is my first foray into Gentoo.
I also have dried XFce and IceWM, but I didn't really care for them.. they seemed a bit too minimalistic (although that might have been the way they were set up on VectorLinux)
I'm open to any suggestions or advice.
Thanks!
