Hello,
I am installing Gentoo PPC64 with ul64 on an lpar that resides on a ibm p520.
(if you do not know about lpars, consider it a virtual system)
Installation went fine except for the bootloader.
emerge of yaboot-static was successful and the dd to sda1 also
Code: | dd if=/dev/sda1 count=10 | grep ELF | Showed a match
however, when rebooting this showed up:
Code: | PReP-BOOT : Unable to load full PReP image.
Loaded bf8000 out of fb8200 bytes. | and after a while, the machine reboots
I cannot find any info so any help is appreciated |

I'm not sure if you've figured this problem out, but perhaps the kernel is just too large? Have you tried removing stuff that you don't need and modularizing stuff that isn't needed for booting? How big is the kernel you made? _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |

Hello,
I have stripped the kernel somewhat down, however without success.
The current kernel size is 5.0MB |

0xbf8000 is 12.5mb, so that should "fit", are you getting the same error with the smaller kernel? Does yaboot load at all? Are there any other messages? _________________ Gentoo PPC FAQ: http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/gentoo-ppc-faq.xml |

yes the problem exists with both kernels.
The first "bigger" kernel was only 5.2MB so both should work according to your info.
As for Yaboot, I never see a yaboot line passing. It gives me the error immediately.
Someone else is trying to install the boot loader now, but I wonder what the problem might be. |

I am familiar with this error i think. Mind dropping in on #gentoo-powerpc and discussing with me? _________________ -->
