Use driconf or something like that to disable the "vsync or syncronisation to vertical"

60FPS because your LCD can only do 60 fps. VSYNC make your ATI output only one frame par screen frame.

I desactivate on ati-panel and now, may be is sufficient to disabe vsync?

papu@egt ~ $ glxgears
44302 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8860.351 FPS
44550 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8909.936 FPS
44537 frames in 5.0 seconds = 8907.306 FPS

papu@egt ~ $ fgl_glxgears
Using GLX_SGIX_pbuffer
13888 frames in 5.0 seconds = 2777.600 FPS
15623 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3124.600 FPS
15563 frames in 5.0 seconds = 3112.600 FPS

On the other hand , the options that show on xorg0.log like (II) is not necessary to activated them on xorg.conf? is it?
I have a noisy problem , sometimes when start kde ( normally) or change any desttop 3d effects the screen starts blinking all the time, any ideas?

So I realised that I needed to use the overlay's ebuild, and not the one listed here, as well as fetch all the ~files/.
Ebuild built and installed package properly, but I've noticed that fglrx in Xorg creates a smaller sized viewing area (normally 1920 1080) and constant flickering. I've created the proper symlinks so that glxinfo reports rendering enabled.

Anyone else experiencing this?

Code:
No supported adapters detected

8.582 works fine though (with xorg-server-1.5)

x800gto (r480). kernel-2.6.29-zen1. xorg-server-1.6.0

Update i've uninstalled fglrx. opensource driver works quite good.

This is a very welcome thread. I used layman and got the overlay, and installed the 8.60 ati-driver. With xorg-server-1.5.3-r6 and kde-4.2, everything looks very good, but when I enable Desktop Effects I get screen corruptions all over. I applied the

Code:
Option     "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps"     "true"

to the Screen section of my xorg.conf, but that shows no improvement. Additionally X does not exit cleanly, hangs, and freezes the machine when I try to restart it.

I am running 32bit Gentoo (I have some app dependencies) on a Dell Studio 17 with 8GB RAM.

Code:
# lspci | grep VGA
01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: ATI Technologies Inc Mobility Radeon HD 3650

# uname -a
Linux roblt2 2.6.27-gentoo-r8 #4 SMP Sun May 31 18:00:29 CDT 2009 i686 Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU T9550 @ 2.66GHz GenuineIntel GNU/Linux

and finally

Code:

Where might I pick up the xorg-server-1.6? Are there any other suggestion of how I might clean up my composite situation?

Has anyone tried this on a 2.6.30 machine?

Also do you think it can compile against xorg-server-9999 from the x11 overlay? fgl-gamma or sth fails which i assume is not as critical as fglrx module failing.. (or is it?)

@rburcham:

xorg-server-1.6.1.901-r3 is already on portage but it's hard masked...

append "x11-base/xorg-server" to /etc/portage/package.unmask...

you might also have to append "x11-base/xorg-server ~arch" (replacing arch with x86 or amd64 depending on your architecture) to /etc/portage/package.keywords if you're running stable

Does this driver also work with the older 1.5 x-server? Where can I find this overlay online?

well amd did just drop the r700 docs and the devs are about to push opengl support for r600/r700, maybe its time you guys start using xf86-video-ati :D

I am... I also have a couple of of issues, including the inability to use an external screen as the laptop screen blurs and fades to white as soon as I use xrandr to enable the external monitor. I have to reboot to get my laptop screen back. Annoying. But as I have a trange issue with DRI, I might have overlooked something.

I just tested 8.612 from the bugzilla; it will compile against xorg-server-9999 and 2.6.29.
the problem was that i hadn't emerged libXi-9999 which provides XInput.h (it used to be provided by inputproto)

however x won't start because of its failing to "find fglrx module". i don't know why this happens (lsmod lists it as loaded)...

i'll give it another shots tomorrow after I recompile all 9999 packages....

I have the latest one working on kernel 2.6.30

But I diden't uploaded it on my overlay because it need a kernel patch after the kernel was installed (and one before).

So I can upload it this night and will add instruction to get it working.

Does it work correctly with >= 2.6.29, despite the error messages in dmesg ("inconsistent kernel data...") ? I'd like to upgrade from 2.6.28, but I use a lot of 3D apps and games and I wonder if the unofficial patch will not add more instability... By "correctly", I mean running at least as good as with 2.6.28, which works good enough for me, although not perfectly.

Seems like you forgot a little something? :-D

Code:
>>> Verifying ebuild manifests

!!! A file listed in the Manifest could not be found: /usr/local/portage/layman/gentoo-quebec/x11-drivers/ati-drivers/ati-drivers-8.602.ebuild

see: https://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-772949.html and the bug i92guboj linked to (https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=266819)

it's running now since 12 hours straight with compositing,

I haven't used it very intensively yet so I can't surely tell whether it's more stable than before

I am curious to know how are you, guys and girls, dealing with the damn log spam problem. It's really annoying because I have to stop syslog, remove the files and restart it again (you know, the file descriptor is not closed until the las process using a file is over, even if you delete the files).

personally, i've migrated to KMS+TTM+live xf86-video-ati driver...

i've had enough of fglrx, i prefer no desktop effects (using R600 core here) to my hopes evaporating with every catalyst release...
and to think that i (still) am an amd fanboy...
