Has anybody seen this article ?

Basically it's an experiment where somebody benchmarked some intensive tasks between Mandrake (i586), Debian (i386) and an arch-optimized Gentoo.
So, now you might think "heh, Gentoo probably kicked Mandrake and Debian's sorry asses, right?"
WRONG. Gentoo was actually WAY BEHIND Mandrake and Debian in all 4 tests.
Can somebody explain what they think went wrong in this test? This is really bad for Gentoo. |

Wow... we're filled with a lot of angst today...
Although yes, this has been covered a lot. The consensus is that the tests were probably not completed in the 'right' way, and there were other things the 'researchers' could have done to optimize speed.

With respect to your question, Measuring the benefits of the Gentoo approach will help you find more information.
