I am running vmware workstation 6.5.1 build 126130 on an XP-pro sp3 host with gentoo as one of the guests. Everything was fine until I did a kernel upgrade from kernel-2.6.22-gentoo-r5 to kernel-2.6.27-gentoo-r8, after which eth0 vanished, and eth1 suddenly appeared in its place. Obviously, this messed up my networking configuration! Now I could edit the networking configuration to live with eth1 instead of eth0, but I would prefer to keep my only [virtual] NIC as eth0. I suspect this is some kind of confusion caused by the device manager. Does anyone know how to fix it?
Thanks! _________________ The MyWord KJV Bible tool is at http://www.elilabs.com/~myword

Net interfaces are defined in /etc/udev/rules.d/70-persistent-net.rules.
You can manually edit this file or just remove it. During next restart udev will generate new rules.
