I did check the wiki.x.org page and it appears there is a newer release. being I was in a liveCD boot how best to proceed as the new version of X windows cannot be added to the CD. |

diakoneo,
Welcome to Gentoo.
Being new to both Gentoo and Linux, you have a very steep learning curve ahead. Only continue with Gentoo if you are prepared for that. Gentoo is a source based distro. That mean you compile all your software and have to make for yourself all the choices that the binary distros make for you.
The Graphical installer you have chosen is depreciated. There are no plans to update it. However, you may use it to do the more traditional Gentoo install following the Gentoo Handbook This approach will provide you with todays gentoo, rather that the one year old Gentoo the GUI installer would have provided.
When you use this method of installation, none of the code from the LiveCD ends up in your install, you you can use any liveCD that will boot on your system and provide a terminal window. This allows you to read the handbook online while your install takes place in the terminal.
Being a complete beginner allow an elapsed time of between two and seven days to get your first Gentoo going.
The learning curve may be steep but you only climb it once. _________________ Regards,
