Hi,
I'm trying to get mailx to work (I only need to send mail).
Do I really need to install sendmail, postfix or is there some simpler alternative?
More specifically, I don't want to run a server. I'm looking for some programme that can send mail directly.
Thanks. _________________ Nothing is what it seems to be. |

If all you want to do is send mail without any bells and whistles, take a look at ssmtp. There are probably some other simple options too. |

There are two different approaches to the mail setup. First is to configure MTA+MRA+whatever els you need, and the second is to install single application, that will deal with SMTP server. In second case you can take a look to this programs:
Alpine
Pine
Cone |

Perhaps I'm mistaken, but pine, alpine and cone can't be scripted (i.e. I can't use them in scripts, which is really all I need) and ssmtp requires an account on some other site.
Am I wrong about ssmtp? Can it be used without some mta? _________________ Nothing is what it seems to be. |
