I did a deep system update recently and now i dont have 3d-support any more.

My hardware is

Its even slow when i use the desktop (slow scrolling and so on).
When looking at Xorg.0.log there is a line that says

It seems that something is broken with the linking deps, but revdep-rebuild does not find anything.
I need a hint where to start first...

Try rebuilding mesa to start with, it owns /usr/lib/dri/i965_dri.so

I'm sorry i rebuilt mesa and xf86-video-intel but it didtn help...
Trying to revert to no-keyworded-system fails, because mesa-6.5 fails to build.

Has the above problem to do with -Wl,-as-needed or -O3 CFLAGS?
And BTW disabling nptl USE flag for mesa there is another error and still reverting to software rendering...

There's a serious problem with the implementation of Intel graphics drivers at the moment and the current release of mesa doesn't support the old acceleration system anymore - the new system is called "GEM" (Graphics Execution Manager).
On my laptop I've got no 3d acceleration since about six month and just tried to live with it, because none of the solutions worked for me.

You can try several things to get it working (many ~x86/~amd64 packages are involved)
- add "dri2" to your USE flags
- Update your kernel version to at least 2.6.28 (or better 2.6.29-rcX)
- Update your xorg-server to at least 1.5.3 (or better 1.6.0 from x11 overlay)
- Update xf86-video-intel to 2.6.x
- Add loading of dri2 to section "Module" in your xorg.conf:

- add the following to section "Device" (your graphics card) in xorg.conf:

I've been trying to build a Gentoo guest with a GUI in VirtualBox that has a solid performance.
I tried installing Gnome, KDE and Cinnamon but neither were acceptable for daily use because the graphics/UI was slow. Slow I mean even scrolling were slow. Characters didn't appear instantly, and so on.

The host is Ubuntu 16.10. Hardware is Intel Core i3 2100, 8GB DDR3 RAM and Radeon HD 5770 series VGA.
I configured the Gentoo guest to have 2 CPU's, 4GB RAM, 128 MB video memory and I enabled 3D acceleration.

Kernel version is 4.4.39. VirtualBox version is 5.1.16 on both host and guest.
The latest installation is based on KDE. I deleted the rest.

glxgears shows around 600 FPS on guest, 60.000 FPS on host
my user is in the groups of "video" and "vboxguest"

There are some interesting thing in the logs above, such as:

One more thing to mention, is that when I tried to install guest additions from the host's iso file, xdm didn't even start due to segfault. It only works if I install app-emulation/virtualbox-guest-additions.

I believe the problem is the "software rendering". It should be "hardware rendering" instead.
I ran out of ideas. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
