I have been having two problems and I don't know what to do. I have been trying to install Gentoo using stage 3. The first problem I have is that when it trys to load usbh.c or something like that it says 3 usb and locks up. I would really like the USB ports because I am using this machine for MythTV and I want to get USB game pads. The second problem I am having is if I boot with nousb it starts to boot then starts failing when it trys to find /boot/ROOT which I don't remember seeing a ROOT folder. It then fails out and either I can use crtl D or enter root password. If I just continue with the boot it then goes to hotplug and trys to load the USB and locks up there. What can I do I have tried installing 3 times now and I might be trying a 4th.

I can't help you with the USB, others would be of more help. As far as the /boot/ROOT, I would have a look at your /etc/fstab.

When you first install Gentoo from the LiveCD it has no idea how you want to partition your system out so it puts BOOT, ROOT, and SWAP entries in caps signifying that they need to be replaced (though the manual doesn't explicitly state that :(). Replace each of those entries with the actual partitions you used.

For example, if you partitioned your system out exactly as the install guide suggests you would have something like this:

Code:

/dev/hda1               /boot           ext3            noauto,noatime
1 2
/dev/hda3               /               reiserfs        noatime
0 1
/dev/hda2               none            swap            sw
0 0

You can make changes to your fstab by restarting your LiveCD, remounting your root filesystem and then tweaking the /etc/fstab file. Hope this helps!
