Hi
How to fsck a root partition?
I tried mount -o ro,remount /dev/sda6 but it doesn't work -> " mount: / busy".
Any hint?

Regards

If there is a file called "forcefsck" in your root directory, Gentoo's startup scripts will run a fsck on the root fs.

Code:
touch /forcefsck && reboot

It doesn't work :cry:
The fsck started, but when it took 6% it stopped and said that I have to do it manually.
The problem is that I would prefer to do it without using LiveCD.. Do you have any ideas how to do it?
I tried to change the fstab and mtab but that didn't work either..

The minimal install CD would work, too. The best (i.e., most correct) way to check a filesystem is with it unmounted. The best way to do that is to use an installation boot media of some sort. What's the reluctance?

If the system will boot at all, then "shutdown -r -F" should force a reboot and
full fsck, but if the filesystem is already garbley then it would be much better
to boot from another partition or a live CD.

I have solvet it without minimal CD check. I typed "I" on startup before the mounting started I run the fsck and it seems it worked.

I think I'm going to change a distro, I can't stand all of those problems on gentoo. For example I've updated my system recently and all of the configuration files were made default... and kdm stopped to work..

Too bad to run away because of that. "etc-update" or "dispatch-conf" would have been your new friend in case of upgrades.

We all learn through errors.
